DOCX repair is the process of restoring damaged, unreadable, or corrupted Microsoft Word documents (.docx) back into functional files. Files typically become corrupted due to unexpected system crashes, power loss while saving, bad storage sectors, or sudden external drive disconnection.
Depending on how badly the file is damaged, you can repair it using built-in Microsoft Word functions, manual extraction techniques, or third-party repair utilities. 1. Native Microsoft Word Methods (Free)
Before trying external utilities, try the built-in troubleshooting features provided by Microsoft Word.
Open and Repair: This is Word’s official built-in diagnostic tool. Open Microsoft Word (do not double-click the broken file). Click File > Open > Browse. Click on your damaged document once to highlight it.
Click the small arrow next to the Open button in the bottom right corner. Select Open and Repair from the dropdown menu.
Recover Text from Any File: If the document structure is broken but you desperately need the text, you can use the built-in text converter. Note that this method discards formatting, headers, and images. Go to File > Open > Browse.
Click the file type dropdown menu (which defaults to “All Word Documents”). Choose Recover Text from Any File. Select your corrupted document and hit open. 2. The Zip Manual Extraction Method (Free)
