How to Set Up CrystalDiskInfo Background Alerts for Overheating Drives
Your computer drives hold your valuable data. If a drive gets too hot, it can fail and cause data loss. CrystalDiskInfo is a free tool that can watch your drive temperatures in the background. It will warn you before a drive overheats. Here is how to set up background alerts step by step. Step 1: Turn on Resident and Startup Settings
To get alerts, CrystalDiskInfo must run in the background at all times. Open the program: Launch CrystalDiskInfo on your computer.
Enable Resident: Click on Function in the top menu and select Resident. This keeps the app running in your system tray by the clock.
Enable Startup: Click on Function again and select Startup. This makes the app launch automatically every time you turn on your PC. Step 2: Set Temperature Thresholds
You need to tell the program at what temperature a drive is considered too hot.
Open Health Status settings: Click on Function, go to Alert Mail, and select Health Status Setting (or double-click the temperature badge of the drive).
Adjust the slider: Find the temperature slider for your specific drive.
Set the limit: Move the slider to your desired warning limit. For most drives, 50°C to 60°C is a safe maximum area to trigger an alert. Apply changes: Click Apply or OK to save the limit. Step 3: Configure Alert Sounds and Notifications
Choose how the program will grab your attention when a drive gets too hot.
Turn on sound alerts: Click on Function, go to Alert Features, and check Alert Sound. The PC will make a sound if the limit is reached.
Enable Windows notifications: In the same Alert Features menu, check Notification. This shows a popup banner on your screen. Step 4: Optional Email Alerts
If you leave your computer running while you are away, you can get email warnings.
Open Email settings: Click on Function and select Alert Mail.
Enter mail details: Fill in your SMTP server details, your email address, and the password.
Test the connection: Use the test option to ensure you receive the sample email on your phone or other devices.
