A disk spin-up utility cannot fix a physically dead or unresponsive hard drive on its own. Software utilities function at the logic level and require the drive’s firmware and circuit board to be actively communicating with the host computer. If a hard drive is completely unresponsive or physically refuses to spin, you must first resolve the underlying electronic or mechanical blockages before any software tools can interact with it. Phase 1: Diagnose the Unresponsive Drive
Before running any software, you must find out why the drive is unresponsive. Listen closely to the drive when you power on the computer.
