The Nexus Root Toolkit (NRT), developed by WugFresh, is a popular, automated Windows program used to unlock the bootloader, root, and modify Google Nexus devices. Unlocking your bootloader is the necessary first step before you can install custom software or gain administrative root access.
⚠️ CRITICAL WARNING: Unlocking the bootloader completely wipes your device, resetting it to factory settings. Back up all important data before proceeding. Step 1: Prepare Your Device
Before opening the toolkit, you must prepare your Nexus phone or tablet. On your Nexus device, navigate to Settings > About Phone. Tap Build Number 7 times to unlock Developer Options.
Return to the main Settings menu and open Developer Options. Enable USB Debugging.
Connect your phone to your Windows PC using a high-quality USB cable. Step 2: Configure Nexus Root Toolkit Launch NRT on your computer. A prompt will ask for your Device Model and Android Build.
Select your exact device (e.g., Nexus 6, Nexus 7) and match your build number found earlier in “About Phone”.
Click Full Driver Installation Guide if this is your first time using the tool, and follow the instructions to set up the proper Google ADB/Fastboot drivers. Step 3: Back Up Your Data On the main menu of the toolkit, locate the Backup section.
Click Create Android Backup File to save your apps and data.
Follow the prompt on your phone screen to confirm and authorize the backup file. Step 4: Unlock the Bootloader
